The Nigerian Rugby Union League resumes this weekend in various zones within the country as the North, South-South/South East, and Lagos Union League will both witness the resumption of the beautiful game made in heaven.
The resumption of the Lagos Union Rugby League will enter its week two as Eco 11 Rugby Football Club will face their rivals Gosar Rugby Football Club at the Main Bowl of the National Stadium, Surulere on the 22nd of June 2019.
After securing just one point at the first week, Lagos Rugby Football Club will be at home to play against the winners of last season’s Lagos Rugby League, Cowrie RFC, while Kings College Old Boys will be looking forward to having another win against Police Rugby who had their first win of the season against the Ajegunle side Gosar RFC. Both matches will be played at the Main Bowl of the National Stadium Surulere between 2pm and 4pm respectively.
Meanwhile, the Northern Rugby Union League kicks off on Saturday as league champions Barewa RFC set to retain their title.
The opening games of the season will see Northern League Champion, as well as holders of the President Cup, Barewa RFC, taking on Jos RFC at the Sabon Gari ground by 2 pm while Kano Police RFC will be at home to Sabon Gari RFC this Saturday.
In a chat with the acting Technical Director of the Nigerian Rugby Football Federation (NRFF), Mr. Abubakar Yaro stated clearly that the Northern Rugby Union League is set to resume with four clubs participating in this season.
Stating this at the northern referee refresher course which took place on Saturday 15th June 2019 at the Jihad Hall Kano, where twenty participants were present.
The training which was conducted by Mr. Martin Crawford also had a class session on the field where both the junior and the senior team of Barewa RFC played amongst themselves and also saw participating referees officiating the game.
Participants were drawn from Jos, Kaduna, Zaria, and Kano for the encounter.
