Nigeria Police Rugby eventually woke up from their slumber this season as they hit Racing RFC for eight on the day when Racing played second fiddle all through the match.
Sulymon Oyebola and Samson Yahaya shone the brightest in the backline, while Tobi Adebayo again caught the eye in the pack. Quick winger, Malik Salihu was also among the try scorers – although he endured a torrid first half. For Racing, there is little consolation that the scoreboard does not reflect their endeavour, only that this was never a fixture they were likely to collect anything from. 40-9 it ended as Police took all five points – Four maximum points plus one bonus point for scoring more than four tries.

Lagos Rugby Club has struggled in the Premier division this season. They are yet to record their first win after losing to Cowrie 0-29. Winger; Christian Ogar Opened the scoring followed by another well worked try by fullback; Oladipo Olawale. Both tries came in just before the halftime. The second half was not very different as Cowrie managed to score another two tries which were all converted by Alfred Oche.

Lagos Dragons didn’t pitch up and were worked over by Gosar RFC.

The opening match was between Division two sides; Panthers and Eco II Rfc. Both teams were initially afflicted by a sluggishness that perhaps owes much to their recent sevens rugby exertions. They both came to life mid-way through the first half when Samuel Ekpo scored for Panthers and Kareem Quadri immediately responded for Eco II with a try of their own. The first half was far from a vintage performance but the second half was livelier as both teams turned on their ‘A’ game though Panthers came out stronger with Marious Moses, Quadri Kolawole and Henry Ani crossing over the whitewash to take game beyond Eco II’s reach. 34-10 it ended in favour of Panthers.

The next round of South-West Rugby Union League matches will come up on Saturday 9th Dec at the NIS pitch, National Stadium, Surulere with Cowries needing just one more win from their remaining two matches against Police and Racing to secure the league title.
